The SAI was established in 1962 as an academic institution of Heidelberg University with a branch office in New Delhi. Research and teaching at SAI focus on India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Given their close links with the South Asian subcontinent, adjacent countries and cultural regions like Afghanistan and Tibet also figure prominently in the work of the SAI. More

Research and development make German companies fit for the futureOne of the key results of the 'German Innovation Survey 2011' published by the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) is that in 2010, more German companies continuously pursued research and development than ever before. The figure was at 34,000, or 12 percent of German companies, thus topping the previous peak value from 2008.
