9th May 2023Inaugural meeting at JIPMER

Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER), Puducherry and Heidelberg Institute of Global Health (HIGH) at Heidelberg University, Germany has embarked on a new project on a collaborative academic partnership to build capacity for global health teaching. This strategic collaboration, spanning over a 4-year period, i.e. from 2023 to 2026, aims to advance the endeavors of both the institutions to build capability for global health, in line with the Sustainable Developmental Goals. This project is supported a financial grant from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

The inaugural meeting for this project took place at JIPMER on 9th May 2023, bringing together experts and officials from both the institutions. 

The key objectives of this partnership are to further enhance institutional infrastructure at the JIPMER School of Public Health (JISPH), with a focus on enabling and supporting the development of relevant courses and training, to internationalize the current teaching curricula and to facilitate exchange of students for exposure to varied settings in the evolving field of Global Public Health.

The event was attended by Dr. Pauline Grys (Coordinator of Teaching & Project Manager, Heidelberg Institute of Global Health), Dr. Suboor Bakht (Director, Foreign Branch Office South Asia (HCSA)), and Mr. Parthesarathy Rajendran (Project Coordinator) from the Heidelberg University end. German Consul-General, Ms. Michaela Kuechler, sent a recorded message for the meeting. On the JIPMER side, the event was attended by Dr. Rakesh Aggarwal (Director, JIPMER), Dr. Ravi Chittoria (Officiating Dean Academic, JIPMER), Dr. Sitanshu Sekhar Kar (Professor and Head, Department of Preventive & Social Medicine, JIPMER), and other faculty members and students of the Department.
