February 8 – 16, 2025 Prof. Lianne D’Souza and Prof. Ronjini Roy from NLSIU Bengaluru visit IPR Institute, Law Faculty, Heidelberg University
Ms. Ronjini Ray, Assistant Professor, NLSIU and Ms. Lianne D'Souza, Assistant Professor, NLSIU were invited as visiting research scholars through a project funded by the Excellence Strategy of Heidelberg University. During their time at Heidelberg, they presented working papers, collaborated on research and attended a conference.
Ronjini presented an analysis of the EU Deforestation Regulation from an international trade perspective. She discussed key provisions of the EU Deforestation Regulation and also discussed possible implications on developing countries including India. Lianne focused on India's regulatory framework on deforestation. She explained the Indian legal landscape with respect to environmental laws and provided an overview of the relevant legislations pertaining to deforestation. She also compared the Indian regulations on deforestation with that of the EU's Deforestation Regulation highlighting some key divergences in scope and approach.
Ronjini and Lianne also attended the 5th German Conference for Young Researchers in Private International Law, exploring how digital transformation is reshaping legal boundaries in an interconnected world. They continue to collaborate with their colleagues from the Heidelberg University.
