Funding Opportunities

In contrast to many universities in the US and UK, most German Universities do not run self-administered, large scale scholarship programmes. however, there are a number of smaller scale scholarship programmes at PhD level. These are administered by:

Graduate Academy

Heidelberg Graduate School of Fundamental Physics (HGSFP)

Heidelberg Graduate School of Mathematical and Computational Methods for the Sciences(HGS MathComp)

The Hartmut Hoffmann-Berling International Graduate School of Molecular and Cellular Biology (HBIGS)
PostDoc Fellowship
MSc/PhD fellowship program

Cluster of Excellence CellNetworks

Graduate Programme for Transcultural Studies

The main funding partner for foreign students is the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst, DAAD). DAAD's scholarship programmes for South Asia, deadlines and information on application procedures can be found here.

Apart from DAAD, the political foundations, which are affiliated to and sponsored by the major political parties in Germany, run scholarship programmes of varying scale, but all of them offer a contingent of scholarships to foreign students.
